RAGBRAI: Perry to Des Moines (July 23)

Posted in Blog, Sharing the Road on July 23rd, 2013.

Today was a welcomed short day. Only about 50 miles. Here is the map: Map – Perry to Des Moines, IA.

Favorite town to pass through has been Minburn. One of the residents referred to it as “the Paris of Iowa.” Great people

I’ve started asking other riders why they are doing RAGBRAI. Especially those who come back year after year. “It restores my faith in people.” These towns open there doors to thousands of people. They cook us food; they offer us water; they offer us stories and encouragement. This whole event is really about family.

I didn’t know what to expect when we signed up for the event. I intentionally stayed away from research. I didn’t want any preconceived notions. I am happy we are here; I am enjoying myself on the bike and with the communities we are interacting with.

Tomorrow is another 50 mile day but an elevation climb of 3000 feet. I will try to post again tomorrow.

Thanks for reading. Continue safely Sharing the Road with pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, school buses, and other vehicles.
